October message by
Dr. Drake Williams,
Minister of Spiritual Enrichment

Dear Friends in Christ,

Fall is a good time to get back to our regular schedules and to regular habits. While it is important to have breaks and vacations that summer gives us, it is important that we have regular and healthy routines. The fall with our return to work, school, and other activities is a good time to work on those daily routines. One habit that should be a part of our lives is Bible reading.

God has given us His Word. He has promised if we follow that Word that we will find success in every way. Joshua 1:8 states this explicitly when it says, Do not let the Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. This is one of many passages in the Bible that promise spiritual success for those who read and follow what is written in the Bible (e.g., Deuteronomy 5:32-33; Psalm 1; II Timothy 3:16-17).

This fall our church is making its way through the life of Moses that is largely found in the book of Exodus. Why don't you read through Exodus with us? It will help establish a regular pattern of Bible reading, and also it will help to prepare you for the service on Sunday mornings. There are many ideas within Exodus that can help us in our daily lives as Christians. Have you ever felt demoralized? God's people felt that way in Egypt years ago. Have you ever encountered insurmountable obstacles? God's people felt that way when they left Egypt and were at the Red Sea. Have you ever dealt with complaints from the people that you love? Moses experienced complaints as he led God's people to the Promised Land. The teachings within the book of Exodus can be a helpful guide for us when we encounter similar things in our lives. I look forward to reading through Exodus with you.

With Christian Greetings,
Rev. Dr. H. Drake Williams, III
