The Gospel of John is slightly different from the other three Gospels. The other Gospels focus on events of Jesus' life, John focuses on the meaning of who He is and what He said and did. We often wonder what God is like, and we're taught to look at Jesus, because He is God and shows us what God is like. On seven occasions Jesus said, "I am." Each one of these is recorded in John. Jesus' seven "I ams" tell us a great deal about His divine character.

Bread
"I am the bread of life.
He who comes to me will never go hungry."
John 6:35

Light
"I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness."
John 8:12

Gate
"I am the gate,
whoever enters through me will be saved."
John 10:9

Good Shepherd
"I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."
John 10:10

Resurrection and Life
"I am the resurrection and the life.
He who believes in me will live, even though he dies."
John 11:25

Way, Truth, Life
"I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me."
John 14:6

True Vine
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener."
John 15:1
