As we consider Genesis 1-11 in our sermon time slot in these next few months, perhaps you might like to do some further reading on the side. The literature on this subject is vast, but the following are some books that will help lay out the basic issues between science and the Bible.
Blocher, H. In the Beginning. Leicester: Inter-Varsity Press, 1984.
Hayward, A. Creation and Evolution. London: SPCK, 1985.
Poole, M. W. Creation or Evolution: A False Antithesis? Oxford: Latimer House, 1987.
Ross, A. Creation and Blessing: A Guide to the Study and Exposition of Genesis. Grand Rapids: Baker, 1998.
Ross, H. The Genesis Question: Scientific Advances and the Accuracy of Genesis. Colorado Springs: Navpress, 1998.
Some articles that can be found on specific issues on Genesis 1-11 can be found on the web through the Interdisciplinary Biblical Research Institute (http://www.ibri.org/index.html). This organization encourages scholars who are working in Biblical studies and another discipline. They hold a monthly symposium at the Biblical Theological Seminary. These meetings are open to all people in the area. In the past few years they have considered a variety of different issues surrounding the Genesis 1-11 accounts. Some of these articles may be helpful as you consider these challenging chapters from the beginning of the Bible.
Oh Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all: the catch is full of your creatures.
-Psalm 104:34
