As we enter the Advent Season, the time of year when we anticipate and prepare for the celebration of the birth of Christ, let's look at some of the prophecies leading up to His birth; and think and pray about their meaning to us today.

In Isaiah 7:13-14; 9:2-7 and 11:1-9 the prophet Isaiah talks about a child coming,
a "shoot from the stump of Jesse," one named "Emmanuel" which means "God with us."

The prophet Micah talks about a great ruler sent by God who will bring peace
and BE peace to God's people in Micah 5:1-5.

Zechariah 9:9-10 talks about a future king who comes, riding on a donkey and bringing peace.

And Matthew 1:26-28 describes the angel's visit and message to Mary.

For additional reading, the Jesus' birth stories are recorded in Matthew 1:18-25 and Luke 2:1-20;
and John 1:1-5 speaks of Jesus as the Word of God.
