An old-fashioned Country Fair with activities for the whole family will be held at Central
Schwenkfelder Church in Worcester on Saturday, September 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. An annual event since 1951, the church’s Country Fair will be held on property adjacent to the main church building, along Valley Forge Road (Rt. 363), just north of Skippack Pike (Rt.73). Many of the activities will take place in historic farm buildings including a barn, granary and carriage house. Over the years, the Country Fair has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit charities, both local and worldwide.
Delicious food will be available throughout the day at the Country Fair. Lunch offerings include pork barbeque and sausage sandwiches, corn-on-the-cob, chicken-corn soup, hot dogs, hamburgers, and freshly-cooked French fries, Also available for snacking throughout the day are lemon sticks, soft pretzels, funnel cakes, freshly baked pies, cotton candy, popcorn, and Freddy Hill Farms ice cream. And after a busy day at the Fair, you can take home a barbequed chicken, for an easy and delicious supper.
Musical performers include Central Schwenkfelder Church’s Brass wind Choir; “Lighthearted,” a women’s ensemble; and “4-Giv’n,” a contemporary Christian praise band. Other entertainment includes an Antique and Classic Car Show, an old-fashioned “Cake Walk,” Hayrides, face-painting, and game booths.
.
At the “Stitches for Missions” booth, visitors can purchase raffle tickets for a beautiful, oversized queen quilt, “Bargello Mountains,” which was hand-quilted by church members in lovely tones of tan and sage. The winning ticket will be drawn at the church’s Country Auction, to be held on Saturday, November 17th. A preview of many other auction items will be displayed at the fair.
Bargain-hunters won’t want to miss the Country Fair’s barn full of clothing “reruns” which features selections for the whole family, and offers dressing rooms. Shoppers can get additional savings during “bag sales” which will be held throughout the day. Some of the most popular items are women’s vintage clothing and “almost new” children’s clothing.
Other popular areas include:
- Live Auction – beginning at 11:00 a.m., a wide variety of items will be put on the auction block. (Furniture, tools, appliances, computers, bicycles, and antiques, to name a few.)
- The Book Stall – with more than 1,000 titles, including hardcover and paperback novels and children’s books.
