Easter Day Services

Three services will be held on Easter Sunday, April 16th. The 7:00 a.m. Easter Dawn Servcie (held on our front portico, weather permitting) includes music by some of our church choir members and a message from one of our pastors, followed by a light continental breakfast. Our 9:00 a.m. Traditional Service includes music by our Chancel, Dorian, and Celebration Brass Choirs. The 11:15 a.m. Informal Worship Service will feature contemporary praise music. Tenebrae Communion Service

On Holy Thursday, April 13th, at 7:30 p.m., Central Schwenkfelder Church will hold a Tenebrae Communion Service which includes readings and music about Christ’s passion. The purpose of the Tenebrae service is to recreate the emotional aspects of the passion story. The service starts out in candlelight. Candles are extinguished one by one with each reading. After Psalm 22 is read, the Christ candle is put out leaving the congregation in near darkness. At this point, the service ends and people leave in silence. Central Worship on Palm Sunday

On Palm Sunday, April 9th during the 2nd Service, Central Worship will offer the final week of Jesus’ life in Scripture and Music. Palm Sunday Cantata

The Chancel Choir and instrumental ensemble will present the cantata, “At the Ninth Hour,” on April 9th, 2017 (Palm Sunday) at the 9:00 service.  This work by Allen Pote captures the drama of the last week of Christ’s life on earth.  It relates the events that begin with Jesus riding triumphantly into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday through his suffering and crucifixion. The heights of joy we feel on Easter are rooted in the depths of Christ’s suffering.  Let us walk this journey with Christ as we prepare for Holy Week.
